Which Entrance Tests Do I Need to Take?

CLAT

COMMON LAW ADMISSION TEST
(CLAT)

  • National level entrance test which serves as the basis for admission to all National Law Universities across India (with the exception of National Law University, Delhi)

  • 2-hour test containing multiple choice questions (MCQs)

  • Negative Marking (0.25 marks for every incorrect answer)

  • Tests a student on the following broad areas: English Comprehension, Current Affairs Including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques

  • Generally scheduled in December every year

MAHARASHTRA COMMON ENTRANCE TEST (MAH-CET)

  • Entrance test conducted by the Government of Maharashtra that serves as the basis for admission to all Government-run and Government-aided law colleges in Maharashtra (including Government Law College, Mumbai and Indian Law Society Law College, Pune) as well as some private law colleges

  • 2-hour test containing multiple choice questions

  • Separate tests conducted for admission to 3-year LLB and 5-year dual degree programs

  • Tests a student on the following broad areas: Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning, General Knowledge Including Current Affairs, English, Logical and Analytical Reasoning, and Mathematical Aptitude

  • Generally scheduled in March (for 3 year law programs) and May (for 5 year law programs) every year

All India Law Entrance Test

  • National level entrance test which serves as the basis for admission to National Law University, Delhi

  • 2-hour test containing multiple choice questions (MCQs)

  • Negative Marking (0.25 marks for every incorrect answer)

  • Tests a student on the following broad areas: English Language, Current Affairs and General Knowledge, and Logical Reasoning

  • Generally scheduled in December (on the Sunday after CLAT)

OTHER ENTRANCE TESTS

Besides CLAT, MH-CET (Law) and AILET, there are certain other law entrance tests which an aspiring law student can attempt.

 

Some of the important ones include the Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT), which serves as the basis for admission to Symbiosis Law School (all campuses) and Law School Admission Test- India (LSAT India), which serves as the basis for admission to Jindal Global Law School and certain other private law colleges around the country.
